The Tiger

Living together is a joy in our new home.  And sharing it with Mikey the Tabasco Tiger makes it even better.  Mikey is a lot like a dog, but in a cat's body.  He waits to greet us by the door, he sits on our laps as soon as we sit down, things like that.  But he uses his self-cleaning litter box and free feeds from his food and water, so he is much lower maintenance!

Born on February 28, 2002, Mikey was the first cat to join us at our Lakeview home.  Stu was suckered into getting Mikey after my friend Brandie sent this picture of Mikey playing fetch with LSU colored beads (I told you he is like a dog).

Mikey has some stories of his own.  He was an indoor-outdoor cat for his first years of life and later became an indoor only cat.  Why, you ask?

When evacuating to Austin from Hurricane Ivan, Mikey got away from us in the town of Brenham Texas, where they make Bluebell ice cream.  He ran under a car at a Toyota dealership and jumped in it's wheel well.

When we tried to get him out, he disappeared.  We looked for an hour or so, but to no avail, so at midnight, we pressed on.  We contacted the SPCA and the animal hospitals, the Toyota dealership and the newspaper, and after a month or so, put Mikey's things in the attic.  Then while fishing in Hopedale, we got the call.  He was living under someone's house a mile from where we lost him and they finally coaxed him with food to see his collar.  A 14 hour round trip later and Mikey was home.
